Medicina Scholars 2013 Program

The Medicina Scholars program was established in 2005 to assist, guide and support Latino college students interested in the medical profession. The program introduces students to the field of medicine by enhancing their knowledge on the role of health care professionals and the clinical aspects of medicine. The three-year curriculum gives Latino undergraduate students a strong basis to succeed and become competitive for admissions to medical school. Students partake in a series of professional development/medical seminars that are geared towards expanding their familiarity with the health field.


Eligibility

o  Student must be freshman or sophomore standing at an accredited university. Must possess a genuine interest and drive to becoming a physician.

o  U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

o  Conversational Spanish

o  Minimum 2.75 (A=4.0) GPA at an accredited college or High School (incoming freshman only)

o  Minimum 19 ACT Composite

 

Application Requirements

o  Complete all sections of the application

o  Provide a copy of official school transcripts

o  Provide 1 letter of recommendation from a faculty member, teacher or advisor

o  Must submit a one to two-page typed personal statement about your desire/motivation to become a physician and what steps you will take to meet your educational endeavors

o  Formal interview by invitation only
